PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” comes to the Academy of Music from June 4th through the 10th, and the Broadway production is based on the beloved animated movie.

Listen to the podcast…

“It’s a really exciting production, because it not only has the great Disney music that was attached to the movie, but it also has some new songs that were written by Alan Mencken and Tim Rice,” explains the Kimmel Center’s Matt Wolf.

Wolf says the Broadway production creatively and fully meets the challenge of transforming an animated movie–and its characters–into live action.

“Not only was the prince transformed into this beast, but somebody was turned into a candlestick, somebody was turned into a teapot, somebody was turned into a little teacup. The imagination of it is absolutely stunning. This is show of ‘wow’ moments, and it’s one the reasons why theater and live entertainment is so magical.”
