Arrest Made In Strawberry Mansion Shooting That Injured 13-Year-Olds

By Walt Hunter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) - Police have made an arrest in a North Philadelphia shooting that involved two 13-year-old girls who got caught in the crossfire.

Seventeen-year-old Radeem Corley, from the 1700 block of Wallace Street, has been arrested and charged with Criminal Conspiracy, Aggravated Assault, Attempted Murder, Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act, Recklessly Endangering another Person, Simple Assault and related offenses.

Investigators say there was some type of party underway on the street on Thursday night when two men started shooting at another man around 6 p.m. Thursday.

The teenage girls were outside playing on the block when they were struck by gunfire.

Police say bullet fragments hit one girl in the head, chest and stomach and she is listed in stable condition. They say the other girl was shot below the eye and was listed in critical condition. The girls, whose identities have not yet been released, are at Temple University Hospital.

"Unfortunately, this stuff happens everyday. You don't want to come outside," said Sharif, one of the victim's cousins.

"It's senseless, it makes absolutely no sense at all. You have two thugs shooting at each other. This block was loaded with children and residents," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

Police believe the shooting was payback for another shooting that happened on the block two days before.
