PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A new survey suggests that people who decide to do any traveling during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend will likely stay relatively close to home.
Jana Tidwell, of AAA Midatlantic, says the survey found that those who elect to travel will most often do so by car, but probably will stay within a 50-mile radius of where they live.
“Almost 60 percent of those traveling plan to visit family and friends,” she says. “And, of those traveling, about 36 percent will head to the beach or a local waterfront.”
With gasoline prices starting to fall, Tidwell says, it’s also possible a lot of people may decide at the last minute to take a mini-vacation, either to the shore or the mountains, to welcome in the unofficial start of the summer recreation season.
