Reward Offered In Olney Double Homicide

By Cherri Gregg and Walt Hunter

PHILADELPHIA(CBS) -- Police need the public's help identifying the suspect that shot and killed two people in cold blood in the Olney-section Monday evening.

A $40,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest an conviction of the suspect they say shot and killed 21-year-old Rodney Ramseur and 21-year-old Latia Jones. Homicide Captain James Clark says the two had been talking on a porch outside of 268 Sparks Street just before 8:30 p.m. when they are shot by an unidentified.

"An unidentified male wearing a grey hoodie and black pants ran up onto the porch, fired several times, striking and klling both of them," said Clark. "He then fled south from that location. From there we don't know which way he went."

As for motive, police say they are evaluating multiple theories. Authorities say Ramseur recently gave testimiony a two-year-old homicide case, so the shooting could be in retaliation. Also, Ramseur is no stranger to police in the area, having a fairly long rap sheet.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 215-686-3334 or 911.
