Elderly Woman Hospitalized After Being Robbed At New Castle Grocery Store

NEW CASTLE, Del (CBS) – A Delaware woman was hospitalized on Wednesday after having her purse snatched by a thief.

The incident happened at 10:53 a.m. when an 85-year-old woman was inside of the Superfresh grocery store on New Castle Avenue in New Castle. The victim was pushing a shopping cart when she was approached by a female suspect who attempted to remove her purse from the inside of the cart. The suspect and victim struggled over the purse, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

The suspect was able to get away with the victim's purse and was seen running toward Stamm Boulevard.

The victim, who was injured during the struggle, was taken to Christiana Hospital and admitted.

The suspect is described as a black female, about 25-32 years old and 5'9"-6'0" tall. She weighs about 120-130 lbs and was wearing a flannel shirt and blue jeans.
