PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - This weekend, spring plant sales continue at area gardens, and two in particular focus on plants native to our area – Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope and the Brandywine Conservancy in Chadds Ford.
If you want an easy care garden, you want more native plants because they already know how to grow around here, so they require less fuss, less fertilizer, and less maintenance from you.
It sounds funny, but our American plants have become so crowded out by plants from Asia and Europe, that they can be hard to come by in stores. So, sales like these are great places to find everything from native perennials and groundcovers, to flowering vines, shrubs and trees.
These sales are open both Saturday and Sunday – so you can get a gift for Mother’s Day, or bring mom along to pick out a nice native plant as a present.
Get details, plus lists of plants you’ll find at Bowman’s Hill at BHWP.org and the Brandywine Conservancy at BrandywineMuseum.org.
