PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia Orchestra presents Richard Srauss’ opera “Elektra.” Jeremy Rothman, the vice president for artistic planning, says it’s an old, entertaining story.
“This is based on the great Greek tragedy. It’s filled with all the drama, blood and gore and family feuding of these great Greek tragedies,” Rothman says.
He says it’s a powerful score with fabulous music and singing.
“It’s got incredible forces within the orchestra–a very large orchestra–on stage and a large cast of singers, 20 singers, and lead roles that we have brought in from all around the world.”
The program takes place at Verizon Hall on May 10th and 12th. Find out more at www.philorch.org.
