Teen Dies After Being Shot During Drive-By In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police say a teen who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time succumbed to his injuries early Thursday after being shot multiple times Wednesday night.

The shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at 62nd and Callowhill Streets in West Philadelphia.

According to investigators, the 16-year-old victim was walking to a store when shots rang out.

Police believe the teenager may have been in the wrong the place at the wrong time and either was shot mistakenly or stepped into the line of fire as the gunman was firing at someone else.

The teen was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition, but was pronounced dead at about 5 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the suspect(s) drove away from the scene right after the shooting.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

So far, no arrests have been made and the investigation into the deadly drive-by shooting is ongoing.
