Female Officer Struck In Head With Chair In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Philadelphia police officer was hospitalized after being struck in the head with a chair after responding to a domestic dispute call late Sunday night.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of S. Bonsall Street in the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia.

According to investigators, the female officer was trying to break up a domestic fight between a 37-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. Investigators say during the altercation, the male struck the officer in the head with a chair.

The officer was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she is listed in stable condition. She is expected to be OK.

The suspect who struck her faces various charges including assault and reckless endangerment.
