Bartram's Garden Kicks Off Season With Weekend-Long Celebration

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Bartram's Garden opens for the season this Friday.

The season-opening celebrations at Bartram's Garden take place May 4th through the 6th, "So we'll be having tours, activities, we'll have some landscaping expertise to help you plan your garden, potentially food trucks," says interim director Stephanie Phillips.

She says among the new features this year, will be a plant nursery.

"It's the first nursery at Bartram's Garden since the 1850's when there were about 10 greenhouses here and part of a trans-Atlantic plant business that the Bartrams created."

And soon you might even be able to comfortably ride your bike out there on a new trail.

"So we're under construction, it's expected to be completed at the end of May but it's our part of the Schuylkill River Trail so there will be about a mile long bicycle and recreational trail that will connect the riverfront to Lindbergh Boulevard and the Southwest community."
