Philabundance Sponsored Cupcake Smash At P.Y.T.

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philabundance is raising money with a cupcake competition in Northern Liberties.

The second annual cupcake smash got underway at P.Y.T. in the Piazza.

"The point is to raise money for hunger," says Marlo DelSorto of Philabundance.

"We have 15 amateur bakers and 15 professional bakers, and they're in a contest."

People pay $25 at the door for the cupcake tasting. All proceeds benefit the organization, which provides meals for those in need in Philadelphia.

"For Philabundance, our agencies are seeing an increase in need of about 25% from last year," adds DelSorto.

Baker Ash Wilson participated in the amateur division.

"I like the idea of making cupcakes for charity."

And apparently anything goes when it comes to recipes.

Wilson: "Mapleshade beef jerky."

Reporter: "…beef jerky in the cupcakes?"

Wilson: "Yes!"

The winner of the cupcake smash will be featured on P.Y.T.'s menu for the month of May.
