Cops: Drunk Man Drove Onto Ocean City Boardwalk To Find Lost Cell Phone

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) – Police say a driver and his female passenger drove onto the boardwalk in Ocean City Tuesday evening in an attempt to find a lost cell phone.

When the driver attempted to drive off the boardwalk, he lost control, struck a railing and rolled over onto the beach.

The driver, 21-year-old Christian M. Winzcuk, and his passenger, 46-year-old Hyeyeon Ju, are facing several charges.

According to investigators, Winzcuk and Ju had been walking on the beach earlier in the night on Tuesday when they lost a cell phone.

Investigators say the suspects then drove a car onto the boardwalk at about 8:50 p.m. to use the headlights in an attempt to locate the missing cell phone on the beach.

When Winzcuk attempted to drive off of the boardwalk, he lost control and struck a railing before rolling over and landing on the beach.

The car came to rest on the east side of the boardwalk in the 2200 block of the beach.

Both Winzcuk and Ju were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigators say approximately 25 feet of railing and boardwalk decking were damaged during the incident.

Winzcuk, of Philadelphia, has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Open Container Alcohol In Vehicle, Motor Vehicle On Boardwalk, Hindering Apprehension and Falsely Incriminate Another.

Ju, of Jenkintown, Pa., has been charged with Allowing Intoxicated Person To Drive, Hindering Apprehension and Open Container Alcohol In Vehicle.
