Tony Blair In Philly To Receive International Statesman Award

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Former Prime MInster Tony Blair of the United Kingdom was in Philadelphia Tuesday night to receive the International Statesman Award from the World Affairs Council.

Tony Blair received the award for his continued efforts to secure lasting peace in different regions of the world. In his remarks to the World Affairs Council, Blair said right now there is a lot of uncertainty and change. He said despite that, western-style democracy is something that many developing nations want.

“Our way of life is a way of life based not on interest, but on values. It remains relevant and true, It remains a way of life people choose any time they have the freedom to choose. It remains a way of life worth standing up for and believing in.”

Blair said to succeed in the future, nations have to change and adapt to meet the challenges ahead.
