One South Jersey Diner Goes All Out For 'Grilled Cheese Month'

COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. (CBS) -- It's National Grilled Cheese Month! And today is National Grilled Cheese Day!
One South Jersey restaurant is taking this so-called holiday quite seriously.
The Pop Shop, in Collingswood, NJ, is known for its grilled cheese sandwiches, especially since their grilled cheese "throwdown" a few years ago with celebrity chef Bobby Flay.
"We were airing a show for the Food Network," recalls Pop Shop assistant manager Kevin Sperlunto. "They contacted Bill and Connie, the owners, and they wanted to do a segment. They told us it was going to be a Coca-Cola party, and he ended up walking through the door -- it was a throwdown with Bobby Flay for grilled cheese! So we had no idea, we were completely surprised."

Sperlunto says they take pride in their grilled cheese sandwiches, especially during National Grilled Cheese Month.
"Every year we've had this. We take it very seriously."
They even have a calendar featuring 30 grilled cheese specialties in 30 days.
"We had the 'loaded potato grilled cheese,' " Sperlunto tells KYW Newsradio. "Coming up we'll have the 'crabby patty grilled cheese.' My favorite one, the one I'm looking forward to most, would definitely be the 'taco grilled cheese.' "
