PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – 82 games over some seven months were merely prologue.  Now it’s time to get serious.

The Flyers open play in the NHL playoffs tonight in Pittsburgh with Game #1 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the Penguins.

Philadelphia has had its share of success against the Pens, winning four of the six match-ups between the two teams this season.  And one of the losses came in that meaningless regular season finale on Saturday.

Good news on the injury front for the Flyers as the team announced today that defenseman Nicklas Grossmann and forward Danny Briere will both return from injury and suit up here in the series opener.

While the #5 seed Flyers do not have home ice advantage against the #4 seed Pittsburgh, it’s probably not that big a deal because the Flyers are 5-1 all-time in Pittsburgh’s new building.

KYW’s Matt Leon spoke with the Flyers beat writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sam Carchidi, to breakdown this first round series.

Listen to the game live on 610WIP.
