Philadelphia Police Arrest Alleged Pickpocket

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police have arrested the man they say is responsible for pickpocketing a KYW Newsradio reporter last week.

Twenty-six-year-old Erik Gomez was arrested Saturday after police recognized him from a surveillance video that depicted him using a stolen credit card.

Last Monday, Gomez allegedly pedaled alongside the victim, Hadas Kuznits, while she was riding her bike in the area of 8th and Walnut Streets and plucked her wallet right out of her pocket (see previous story).

Within 15 minutes, police say, Gomez used Kuznits' credit card to purchase cigarettes and junk food. He also tried to withdraw $200 in cash from an ATM but was denied.

After police made the connection on Saturday, they quickly stopped Gomez, identified him, and made the arrest. Gomez is charged with theft, narcotics possession, and related crimes.
