PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – 40 of the best bakers in the Delaware Valley ascended on the Loews Hotel in Center City Monday night for the 7th annual “Let Them Eat Cake” competition- designed to designate the best cake in the Philadelphia Area in the categories of taste and artistic creativity.
For a small donation, visitors to the “Under the Big Top” themed competition were met with cakes big and small, from insanely intricate to beautifully simple and the best part- there were enough samples to feed a small army.
The winners were broken into categories such as Best of Show, Most Artistic, Best Theme, and of course Best Tasting, which went to Adelaide’s Bakery of Glendora, NJ for their pink cotton candy cake.
“Oh my god, we never win! We’ve been doing it for four-years and we never win anything.”
An excited Stephanie Murphy was happy to take home 2-awards. Her partner, Monica Motter, says they really were just winging it.
“What the heck can you do to top everybody else? Cotton Candy flavor was apparently it.”
Stephanie adds that she learned her craft from her grandmother, for whom her Bakery is named after.
