Attempted Car Tire Thieves Arrested In Rhawnhurst

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Three suspects were arrested after they were caught in the act of attempting to steal tires from parked cars in Northeast Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at about 3 a.m. at Glendale Avenue and Shisler Street in the city’s Rhawnhurst section.

According to investigators, police arrived and witnessed the suspects attempting to remove tires from a parked car.

The suspects attempted to flee, but officers were able to catch up to the suspects and place them under arrest.

A van with several stolen tires inside, as well as a tire jack, was found at the scene. In addition, at least one car was propped up and had all four tires removed.

The incident remains under police investigation.

    They steal factory wheels off of Toyota Venza, Infiniti QX56 trucks, Chrysler 300, Dodge SRT and anything else that is close to 20 inch factory size and has lug patterns that match Honda Civics & Accords. Drive around Philly or check on craigslist and you’ll see Hondas with other manufacturers wheels on them.

    They are stealing the ALLOY WHEELSETS, not only the tires of Hondas. This has been happening all over the Center City area for months. Queen Village issued community alerts last year due to several thefts. Old City was hit in the fall.

    These are the guys who would have supplied tires to the victims of tire slashing in Mayfair. Therefore, they are working together.
