NatGeo Traveler Names Philadelphia a Top Movie-Making Town

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The City of Philadelphia gets a mention in the March-April issue of National Geographic Traveler for its memorable movie moments.

According to the magazine, Philadelphia is one of the most memorable destinations on the silver screen.

And as more and more movies are being filmed here in Philadelphia, more people are taking notice:

"I've definitely seen a lot more of the (production) buses and trailers," noted one woman today.

For a lot of people, it's thrilling to see familiar places appear in the movies.

"Well, Rocky, obviously," recalls one visitor to the statue at the foot of the art museum steps.

Another woman nearby reeled off several Philadelphia-based films: "I know that they filmed Rocky here, Philadelphia, National Treasure."

Do a lot of people come here just because of Rocky?

"I do, I do," said one man outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art this afternoon.  "I don't know how many hundreds of people come here each day just to run these stairs and to go see that statue over there."

"The Sixth Sense was in Philadelphia as well," one woman recalled for her friends.

Do these tourists ever go to a city and visit a place specifically because it was in a movie?

"I might not visit it because it's in a movie, but when you're passing those spots that you saw in a movie, you be, like, 'Hold up!  I saw this in the jawn!' " said one young man.
