SEPTA Warning Of The Dangers Of Trespassing On Railroad Tracks

By Jim Melwert

AMBLER, Pa. (CBS) - SEPTA officials will be out at the Ambler train station this morning, handing out flyers and warning of the dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks.

Safety officers, SEPTA police officers and operations managers will be in Ambler to talk to passengers, pedestrians and motorists.

"We've had a number of fatalities in recent months," SEPTA manager of operational safety Scott Sauer says. "So our safety blitz is to target the different passengers and pedestrians that may encounter the railroad, and to let them know that it's dangerous to walk on or near railroad property where they're not supposed to be and to educate them on the signs and signals associated with crossings, signs and signals, and things like that."

Sauer says they're targeting Ambler today because of a number of improvements here at this station, and he says also a number of young people that walk along railroad in that area. He says SEPTA police will be here as a reminder that trespassing is not only dangerous, but also illegal.

This is part of a SEPTA-wide safety initiative after several rail related deaths not only on SEPTA tracks, but also Amtrak and freight rail.
