WYOMISSING, Pa. (CBS) – A would-be bank robber was shot by an off-duty officer in Berks County early Monday morning, police said.

The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. at the M&T Bank located at Penn and 8th Avenues in Wyomissing.

According to the FBI, the suspect walked into the bank with a device strapped to his body and announced a hold-up.

An off-duty officer intervened and wrestled the suspect to the ground. During the struggle, the suspect was reportedly shot in the chest.
