DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — Jose Bautista hit his third home run of spring training and Philadelphia’s Cole Hamels gave up five runs and eight hits in 3 1-3 innings as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Phillies 10-2 Sunday.
Bautista’s two-run homer capped a five-run sixth. It came on David Herndon’s first pitch after he replaced Jose Contreras.
Hamels, who had allowed two runs in 10 2-3 innings over his three previous spring training starts, gave up two runs in the second inning, one on doubles by Yan Gomes and Yunel Escobar, then was chased when Gomes hit a two-run single in a three-run third.
Toronto’s Brett Cecil allowed one run and four hits in four innings. Shane Victorino tripled in the first and scored on Hunter Pence’s single.
