CHESTERFIELD, N.J. (CBS) – Motor vehicle citations have been issued to the drivers involved in the February 16th fatal collision between a school bus and a dump truck.
According to the report, a summons for Failure to Stop or Yield was issued to the driver of the school bus, John Tieman, 66. Two summons were issued to Michael Caporale, 38, the driver of the dump truck for Failure to Secure Container and Failure to Tarp Load.
On the morning of the collision, Tieman was driving the school bus to Chesterfield Elementary School when it was struck in the rear driver’s side by the dump truck driven by Caporale at the intersection of Route 528 and Old York Road. The bus spun into a utility pole.
An-11-year-old girl died as a result of the collision, and 17 others were hospitalized. (see related story)
Chesterfield Township Police, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police are currently investigating the crash. Additionally, the National Transportation Safety Board is conducting its own investigation.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office will determine if any criminal charges will be made in the case. However, no determination will be made until the investigation is complete and results of the toxicology tests are received.
