Apparent Murder-Suicide In Lawncrest Neighborhood Under Investigation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are investigating a double shooting in the city’s Lawncrest neighborhood Saturday evening.

At about 6:45 p.m., police were called out to the baseball field at the Lawncrest Recreational Center in the 5900 block of Rising Sun Avenue for a shooting.

When police arrived, they found a 31-year-old Hispanic male and 28-year-old Hispanic female, each with a single gunshot wound.

Police say the male shot the female once in the upper torso, then shot himself n the head. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. According to authorities, it appears the two were in a relationship. Witnesses say they heard the couple arguing.

“I have kids that come up here everyday; I used to come up here everyday. It’s crazy, I would never consider something like that happening here,” said Jason, a witness.

Police are investigating this shooting as a murder-suicide.

We need a Good mayor…. one like Frank Rizzo! Keep the animals off the streets by allowing police to treat them like animals that they are. I also believe they should make strict laws against illegal gun possession. First offense of carrying an illegal gun should be 10 years in Prison and 2nd offense get life! In addition, if anybody shoots someone in aid of a crime, they should be tortured in his or her cell until they die. With them laws in place, I will bet my life violent crime will drop

I agree.. Its so sad to see how that neighborhood has changed dramatically. I never even drive around there anymore because its nothing but trash on every corner or in the bars and restaurants and playground. People go to the playground and field not to play with friends or be involved in sports but to cause trouble, do drugs and kill eachother.. very very sad!
