PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police officers were forced to open fire on a suspect while chasing him early Thursday morning.
The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. at 38th and Market Streets in the University City section.
According to investigators, officers were chasing an attempted robbery suspect when he turned around and pointed a silver object at them.
The officers, believing the object was a gun, discharged their weapons and struck the suspect in the leg. The suspect was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.
The incident remains under police investigation.
