200 Teens Get Free Prom Dresses From Police Athletic League Of Philadelphia

By Suzanna Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nearly 200 teen girls from the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia got prom dresses Thursday--for FREE.

The PAL center at 17th and Brown Streets was filled with nearly 1-thousand dresses.

Taylor Minatee chose a long dark pink dress with silver beading on the straps....

"I probably wouldn't get a dress as nice as this if I went to a retail store because it would probably be like $5,000 dollars. So, to get a free one is even better."

The "Prom Boutique" also included shoes, jewelry and a lesson in makeup application. Nancy Rounbehler of Cozen O'Connor founded the Prom Dress drive four years ago.

"Some of the things that are here are Jessica Mcclintock, Nicole Miller, really brand name labels and they've maybe been worn once. Some things have tags on them. They're brand new."

Donated prom dresses are accepted throughout the year.
