PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Tony Award winning musical Fela! comes to the Academy of Music from March 20th to the 25th.
Listen To Podcast Below…
Fela! tells the story of Fela Kuti, the father of Afrobeat music, who used his pioneering art to attack the oppressive dictatorships ruling much of Africa. And the Kimmel Center’s Matt Wolf says you’ve never see a musical like this.
“I would call it a unique theatrical experience. I think Bill T. Jones, who is a heavyweight choreographer and director, did such a wonderful job using music, lyrics, color, and physical movement, and combined them in a way to really paint such an interesting picture.”
Wolf also says the audience may have trouble staying in their seats.
“It’s just this ride that you go on. And it’s got incredibly high energy, incredibly beautiful color, incredibly ingenious movement, and then incredible intimate moments,” Wolf explains.
