Eagles Officially Place Franchise Tag On DeSean Jackson

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It’s official, the Eagles have placed the franchise tag on wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The team announced the move Thursday via press release.

“We want DeSean to be an Eagle for the long haul and this is a step in the right direction to accomplish that,” said Eagles general manager Howie Roseman via the release.  “DeSean is a talented player and a proven playmaker in this league and we look forward to him continuing his career in Philadelphia. It’s our understanding that he has the same desire. We will continue our efforts on getting a long-term deal done with him.”

There are still several scenarios available for the Eagles and Jackson, they are outlined here.

94WIP’s Reuben Frank suggested last week that the team would sign Jackson to a long-term deal in the near future (see story).

Do you think they’ll trade him, sign him long-term, or keep him for one year? Let us know in the comments.

It amazes me how clueless some Philly sports fans are. All Ryan Howard does is drive in runs (100+) nearly every year. Does he strike out a lot? Sure. But so did Mike Schmidt. Schmidt, too, was criticized during his career. It wasn’t until his twilight, after looking at all of his accomplishments, that many fans said “wow, he is someone special who we are really going to miss.” I think Howard may end up in the same boat.

And I would take Vick over Manning any day. Manning is good, but overrated. He is not Peyton (even though he has two rings compared to Peyton’s one.) Vick and Jackson can be truly electric. I understand that people might not like them, but they are amazing football players.

Sammy Sam! Do you know sports? Michael Vick is the best thing in football. Donovan McNabb cant throw. Desean Jackson compliments Vick. The two comes together equals TDs! Don’t blame the offense because the lack of defense in their 6 losses that hurt their Super Bowl chances. Eli Manning and the Giants are overrated. Eagles would have blown the Patriots out!

Sure they would have, especially with their great coaching. Now let’s hear your excuses for Andy.
