'Act Of Valor' Takes Top Box Office On Oscars Weekend

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Movie audiences gave the Navy SEALS their seal of approval.

Act of Valor, the new action thriller in which actual Navy SEALS play versions of themselves, finished first at the box office over Oscars weekend, earning just under an estimated $25-million.

And it was another fairly good deed at the box office by Tyler Perry.

Tyler Perry's Good Deeds -- written and directed by as well as starring Perry -- finished second.  It took in $16-million in its debut.

Third place went to the holdover sequel, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, with $13-million.

Fourth and fifth places were claimed by last weekend's leaders, Safe House and The Vow, with $11-million and $10-million respectively.

The weekend's other two new releases also cracked the top ten:

Wanderlust, the comedy with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston, was eighth with $7-million.

And Gone, the thriller with Amanda Seyfried, tallied $5-million, good for ninth.

Overall, totals remained slightly ahead of last year's pace.
