PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Coast Guard had to rescue a hunter and his dog, Saturday night, after they got stuck in the mud in Brigantine Bay.
Coast guard petty officer Cindy Oldham says the 67-year-old Mullica man took his dog aboard a 12-foot skiff and set out to hunt geese in Hammock Cove at the back side of Brigantine Bay.
Apparently, he forgot that the tide would go out, leaving barely six inches of water– not enough to float the skiff. Oldham says he called 911 a little before 9 p.m.
“He wasn’t injured he was just starting to get cold and suffer hypothermic symptoms.”
Oldham says the coast guard sent a helicopter and hoisted the man to safety and then, hoisted the dog.
“I can’t imagine what the dog was thinking when he was being hoisted into the helicopter.”
Oldham says both the hunter and his yellow lab are fine.
