Actor Tony Danza To Release Book About His Days Teaching At Northeast High

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – He's an actor. He was a Philadelphia schoolteacher. And Tony Danza says soon, he'll be an author.

Tony Danza is writing a book on the year he spent teaching sophomore English at Northeast High for his reality show, "Teach." He says he doesn't sugarcoat the fact that he saw unmotivated students and discouraged teachers. But he concludes, most Philadelphia students do want to learn -- they just need adult guidance.

"You can have a class -- you can have one or two kids who not only want to disrupt the class but don't want the other kids to learn because misery loves company. That happens. There's no doubt. But my feeling was that for the most part, they're looking for somebody to say, 'Hey this is the way to get there."'

Danza says the book entitled "I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I've Ever Had: My Year at Northeast High," is due out in August.
