Tony Danza Hosts Talent Show To Benefit Northeast High School

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Northeast High School on Cottman Avenue held a talent show fundraiser Thursday night, featuring the return of a special guest who helped host the show.

"You teach one year, you get into these kids lives and boom, you're gone," actor Tony Danza said.

Danza just can't get enough of Northeast High School. The actor taught English two years ago for an A&E reality show and has been a part of the Northeast family ever since. So when he heard about major education budget cuts affecting the school, he stepped up.

"You know I'm really concerned about education in this country. And I just think this place has such an energy and such an excitement to it," Danza said.

And the house was packed. Principal Linda Carroll says more than 1400 people bought tickets to the show and all the money will go to help bring back much needed programs.

"We had to cut our hours for clubs and art programs. But instead of crying, we decided to figure out a way to get the money," Carroll said.

And Carroll says as an extra bonus, a donor has agreed to match all the funds raised at the event.
