Could The Flyers Trade For A Goalie?

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Flyers made a move yesterday, trading for Dallas defenseman Nicklas Grossman in exchange for two draft picks. Not everyone thinks that will be their final move before the NHL’s February 27th trade deadline. Though most think they may trade for another defenseman, the other position they could be after might surprise you.

Anthony SanFilippo, Flyers beat writer for the Delaware County Daily Times joined 94 WIP’s Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team on Friday to talk about what the moves the Flyers might make. “I’m not saying it’s definite, and I’m not saying it’s going to happen. I would not be surprised, if the Flyers, and they think they can make a push this year, look before the trade deadline to bring another goaltender,” SanFilipo said. “They’re never afraid to correct their mistakes no matter how expensive they are.”

Trading for a goaltender would be surprising, because of the money the Flyers have invested in Ilya Bryzgalov. “I don’t know where is head is, or if it will ever be back in our universe,” SanFilipo said of Brygalov.

So what do you think, could the Flyers trade for a goaltender? Let us know in the comments.

After watching Bryz’s performance, or lack thereof this year, I don’t believe he has what it takes to last. Whether or not our defensive system has the best design, you cannot escape the fact that an overwhelming number of goals were unbelievably soft. Certainly not something I would expect to see from an NHL caliber goalie, much less one with a 9 yr/$51M contract. This last game against Pittsburgh was a perfect example. He was nothing less than Horrific in net. Laviolette and the rest of the team have to be thinking “this guy sucks” and is there an end in sight ? I know I would.

Bottom Line SanFilippo has no clue

Would be the dumbest thing they can do. It would be a typical Over- reaction move by the Flyers. Bryz has had a rough time no doubt. Look at what he is dealing with a new confrence, A high pressure hockey market, 24/7 and a new system. The biggest problem with the Flyers is there defensive system. It flat out stinks. How many times do we see them fronting players in front of the net? How many times do we see a person pay for being in front of the net? How many times do we see puck watching? There forwards and D men need to get better or its not going to matter what goalie is in net. Oh and stop turning the puck over this isn’t odd man rush practice.
