Women Sentenced After Running Down Bystanders in North Philadelphia

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Two young women were sentenced today for the carnage they caused outside a North Philadelphia after-hours club on Labor Day weekend 2010 (see related story).

Sharonda Cheeves, at the wheel when a female bystander was struck and killed, has been sentenced to 4-8 years in prison.  Her co-defendant, Jesslyn Williams, got 2-4 years.

Fueled by alcohol and anger after they weren’t allowed into the club because they had alcohol and were abusive to staff, defendants Cheeves and Williams got into a car and circled the block repeatedly, hitting more than half a dozen people, killing a 27-year-old woman and seriously injuring several others, including club manager Kadella Davis, who says she never saw it coming.

“One (victim) was down the street — he had been hit twice already. He was laying in front of a car.  I had my back to them approaching me, so that’s why I didn’t see myself being hit.”

The victims and families wanted longer sentences, but Judge Benjamin Lerner says he considered many factors in the sentencing, including the fact that both defendants had no previous criminal record and both pleaded guilty (see related story), sparing the other victims the trauma of a trial.

WOW. Running someone down while drunk. This is shocking.

What? Only four to eight years?? For premeditated MURDER?? This has got to be the closest thing to literally getting away with murder I’ve seen in a while. That poor 27 year-old woman had her whole life ahead of her. But because of the actions of these 2 stupid women, she is dead. And to add insult to injury, judge Lerner is telling us that this poor woman’s life was punitively only worth 4 to 8 years?

So I guess the moral of this story is, if you want to kill someone in Philadelphia, don’t use a gun or a knife, because that will get you life! Instead, run them over with your car repeatedly, and you’ll only get 4 to 8. And with good behavior, you’ll be out in 3! Way to go soft-on-crime District Attorney.

Justice was not served here. A human being’s life was ended due to cruelty and hatred. The sentences do not reflect just how horrible an act this was.

Shame on the judge for the miscarriage of justice allowed.

What? Four to eight for purposely running someone over with a car?

What if it was a gun, rather than a car? Or poison in their soup?

I can think of a few people who need killin’

    And four-to-eight doesn’t sound like so much to pay . . .

Wow, the cycle will never end when you let intentional killers off so easy, they’ll be back on the streets in half their “time” hardened and ready to create more mayhem.

How about a statement from Worthless Williams, the so-called Killadelphia DA re his opinion on this travesty of a

Four to eight for killing a person? You mean circling the block several times looking for victims wasn’t considered premeditated murder? Way to go, Killadelphia, way to go!

It’s not just THIS city. It’s every city in the country where they populate in numbers. They’ve even managed to destroy Atlantic City. No corporation will build a supermarket in Atlantic City since the welfare moochers shoplifted two supermarkets into bankuptcy over five years ago. Now the moochers are bussed to nearby towns to shop (lift). They’re not wanted there either for good reasons.

Just another reason why so much trash comes to Philly. You can get away with murder.

    • Trashphilly

      right, Hater, only 4-8 years,

      • Hater

Right Trashphilly, ONLY 4-8 years. I think they both deserve death. They could easily have killed more than one person. IMHO, they got away with murder.

Only eight years for purposely killing someone!?! This was not an accident; they hit people and kept on hitting people. I don’t care if it was the first time – we should make it her last!
