9-Year-Old Injured In West Philadelphia Hit-Run

By Walt Hunter, Dray Clark

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that sent a child to the hospital Tuesday.

At 5:30 p.m., police responded to the 4800 block of Merion Avenue in West Philadelphia for reports of a nine-year-old struck by a car.

When they arrived, they determined the girl, Aijahanae Johnson, had been riding her bike when she was struck by a blue car, driven by a female in her 20's.

Police say Johnson suffered cuts and scrapes on left side of her body and left side of her forehead.

The driver fled the scene of the accident and was last scene in the area of 49th and Thompson Streets.

A group of neighbors, who attempted to chase down the car to stop the driver, were able to give police a license plate number, but so far, police have not made any arrests.

The child was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in stable condition.

Police continue to search for the driver.
