PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – This is not the biggest day of Campaign 2012, but it could be a big one for a Pa. candidate.

The primary battle moves to the West and Midwest. Right now, several polls have Rick Santorum leading Mitt Romney in Minnesota, in second place in Colorado and leaning toward victory in the Missouri primary, which is not for delegates — it’s a non-binding popularity contest.

Newt Gingrich is trying to hold on for the Southern states, but Santorum needs a win now. Campaign cash is short and Santorum, who has done much better than expected in this wild year, may be out of options.

Sources in the Santorum campaign say the candidate is determined to be the only conservative alternative remaining against Mitt Romney. Today’s showing may determine whether the former Pa. Senator can get the resources to stay in the race.

Santorum is the ONE who can unite this party, has the highest positives, and can truly unite the bickering warring factions between newt and mitt. he isnt perfect, but by far the most conservative, consistently (newt can lay claim to some good victories and pushing forward the conservative cause during the 90s, but has also had forays into liberal-land, calling the reagan of era over, sitting on the couche with princess nancy, being for HC mandates before he was against it –i guess better late than never, unlike romney–and being pro-global warming theory, just to name a few). SANTORUM is the CLEAR conservative choice. i was for newt before he imploded and Santorum finally found his groove. newt had his shot, twice, but is deeply flawed on some major issues, and has by far the worst negatives in the field, both within the republican primary, as well as the general. mitt nor newt can unify this party like we need. i WILL vote for the eventual nominee, but we dont settle before this process is complete! NOW is the time to fight for the BEST guy, and more and more are seeing that the answer is not newt, not mitt, not ron…but SANTORUM!!
