PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With budget cuts and layoffs across the board, at times teachers in local districts may feel rather unappreciated. But there is one spot in Center City where teachers are appreciated every day.
Jonathan Hunter owns the Raven Lounge on Rittenhouse Square. A former teacher in the Philadelphia School District, Hunter decided when he opened the Raven that he wanted to do something special for all teachers.
“I felt like as a former school teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, teachers really don’t get a lot of breaks except for summer vacations. And who are we kidding–we all worked over the summer anyway. So we give a 50% discount to all the teachers regardless of what school district, as long as they present a teacher ID and they get teacher discount cards.”
Hunter adds he’s already mailed approximately 20,000 teacher discount cards across the region, and teachers from all over can take advantage of the discount from when the bar opens until it closes, six days a week.
Oh, and if teachers are wondering about the atmosphere at the Raven Lounge…there are board games all over and champagne and pop rocks is the most popular drink.
