PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There is no doubt that Super Bowl Sunday is one of the best times to get together and celebrate with friends. In fact there are those who say that it is a couch potato’s dream!

But the reality is that Super Bowl Sunday can be a disaster for a calorie counter. So, if you have actually been keeping that New Year’s resolutuion for over a month, what do you do now?

For the average person, my advice is to understand that you may consume more calories but be careful. If there is a chance to have celery, carrots and a small amount of dip versus some spicy chip or creampuff, opt for the celery if you can. Look for water or diet soda and, if you are going to drink beer, limit the amount and try to drink light beer.

These are all common sense tips and I do not want to ruin the fun but be somewhat smart about it.
