Barber Shop Owner Critical After Hunting Park Shooting

By Todd Quinones

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The owner of a North Philadelphia barbershop is fighting for his life after being shot during a robbery Thursday night.

According to sources, the owner of Sharp Styles Barbershop at North 8th and West Luzerne Streets was shot in the lower back as he was closing up for the night.

"He was approached by a male in a red hood sweatshirt, who robbed the owner of the barber shop," said Philadelphia Police Inspector Scott Small. "(The suspect) then for some reason shot the owner, and the male was last seen running North on 8th Street."

Friends of the victim said he owned Sharp Styles for about 10 years.

"He'd be here all day, from seven in the morning until about 9 p.m.," said friend Jose Vegas.

The victim, who's identity has not yet been released, was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is listed in critical condition.

This shooting is under investigation.
