Brotherly Love: 50 Fights In One Night

By Ukee Washington

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- How hard would you fight to help kids? One man in Pitman, N.J. might have you beat.

We know scenes of fighting don't look like Brotherly Love, but Brian DeGori is not your average Good Samaritan. The New Jersey karate school owner and former Marine will turn 50 on February 11. On his birthday, he's going to fight 50 people, one at a time for 90 seconds at a time for a total of two hours, including boxing and mixed martial arts.

"People are starting to say, 'What's wrong with you?'" joked Brian. "'Are you feeling okay?'"

He is. The fights are all for charity: Big Brothers Big Sisters. When CEO Robert Jakubowski first heard this idea, he wasn't sure what to think.

"When we heard more about Brian and what he does, he's fighting for kids just like we are," said Jakubowski.

Tickets to Brian's 50 fights will cost $10 up to $50, depending on whether you want to sit on the sidelines, in the ring, or spar with Brian yourself.

"Anything's going to help us, because it costs us about $1000 to $1500 for every mentoring match," said Jakubowski.

Brian is also raising money for 10 children to take classes at his studio.

"We're gonna get some kids in there as well. We're going to have some fun fights," said Brian.

Brian gave Ukee Washington a fighting lesson.

"I've got a bad hip. I need some Advil!" joked Ukee afterward.

"50 Fights In One Night" will be held Saturday, February 11th at 6:00 p.m. at Okinawa Kenpo Karate, 72 East Holly Ave., Pitman, NJ. For tickets, call 856-589-5551 or email hglass5@yahoo.com.
