Suspect In Shooting Outside W. Kensington Market Awaits Extradition From NYC

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Philadelphia homicide suspect is awaiting extradition after being caught by police in New York.

Authorities say the Philadelphia Police Department's Fugitive Task Force, the NYPD, and FBI agents from Philadelphia and New York located and arrested 23-year-old Jorge Aldea in the Bronx on Friday (see previous story).

Aldea is accused of shooting 22-year-old Luis Chevere dead in the 100 block of Westmoreland Street in the West Kensington section on the day after Thanksgiving on November 25th.

Police interviewed Reyna Aguirre Alonso as a possible witness to that murder.

Last Monday, police say, while Alonso was working in the Caribe Mini Market in West Kensington, a man wearing a ski mask shot Alonso in the chest four times. The suspect, authorities say, left the store. No one else was hurt and nothing was stolen.

Authorities have not commented on any connection between the cases.
