South Street Home Store Hosting Bone Marrow Donor Drive

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A South Street home store is hosting a bone marrow drive today from 12-6pm.

Mark Miklosovich of Busybee Homestore on South Street says he became aware of the need for bone marrow donors when his business partner got Leukemia. So, he decided to host a bone marrow drive here at the store.

"People come and collect and fill out a registration form and then they take a very simple swab of the cheek and that is sent off to the DKMS, which is an international registry. From the genetics on that swab, they can determine if it is a match."

Miklosovich says being on the registry does not necessarily mean that you will be donating your bone marrow, which explains the lack of medical equipment at this drive.

"This is the largest misconception: that it is somehow painful or inconvenient and as we said it's a five or ten minute process."

He says the more people that are in the database, the more potential there is to save lives.
