Elton Brand Says The Sixers Need To Make It To At Least The Second Round Of The Playoffs

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Can the Sixers win the NBA Championship this year? Elton Brand says with the shortened schedule,  it's not impossible.

Brand joined Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team on 94WIP today to talk about the team's success this season, and what it's like to play under Doug Collins. When asked what would make this season successful, Brand said "at least two rounds. We've got to get out of the first round. After that, who knows? It's a lockout season, all these games on top of each other. We've got strength in numbers, we've got a lot of talent."

The Sixers, without a "star," have been able to win by spreading the ball around on offense, to let everyone be part of the scoring. Brand credits coach Doug Collins' system for a lot of the success, "Collins makes it easy," Brand said, "he said there's a bunch of losers with stats, if you want to win, you need to buy into my system."

It's not just the coach though, Brand says the players need to be able to adapt to this approach, as the Sixers have. "We have high character guys who want to be here, and that's why it's been easier to listen to Coach."

Brand said he likes what the new owners have done, except for the mascot situation. "I don't know what's going on with the mascot situation. I live in the burbs, and I haven't seen a moose yet."
