2 Hospitalized After House Fire In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – One person is in critical condition and another is in stable condition after a house fire in West Philadelphia early Monday morning.

The fire broke out at about 6:45 a.m. inside a home in the 5800 block of Delancey Street in the city's Cobbs Creek section.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the home.

A 51-year-old female suffering from burns to her face and smoke inhalation was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition. An 87-year-old male suffered burns to his face, forehead and right hand and was also taken to HUP where he is listed in stable condition.

The fire was placed under control in about 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
