Musician And Philadelphia Native Back On The Charts After More Than 50 Years

By Molly Daly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --Fifty-five years after he had a million-selling hit record, Philadelphia native Charlie Gracie is back on the charts. Gracie's new song "Baby Doll" is the top-selling single in Philadelphia.

He's known as Philly's first rock star and was the subject of a documentary, and now Charlie Gracie has a hit single available on Amazon.

"Nationally, I understand it's number 51 or 52 on the Billboard chart. My goodness, I never thought I'd live to see my name on the charts again," says Gracie.

It's not as if Charlie Gracie ever went away. He's been a working musician for 60 years, playing gigs locally and touring in Europe, where he plays to sell-out crowds. And this veteran musician says it never gets old.

"When I go to perform, I don't care where it's at, or how much they pay me, it's like being on a honeymoon every time I get on stage. Like falling in love, over and over again, and I keep learning things. I mean, you never stop learning, especially on the guitar -- it's infinite."
