Man Sought In Assault on Teen Girl In Upper Chichester Township

By Tim Jimenez

UPPER CHICHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- Police in Delaware County are looking for a man they say tried to abduct and sexually assault a teen walking alone yesterday afternoon.

According to police, an 18-year-old Upper Chichester high school student was walking back home after applying for a job at a local grocery store.

"She was approached from behind by a male she believes of either Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent," Detective Thomas McNichol told KYW Newsradio today.

The young woman told police that at 3:30pm, on the 900 block of Bethel Avenue, someone came up to her, claiming car trouble. McNichol says she told him about a nearby gas station and started to walk away, but the suspect did not, grabbing her from behind.

"She tried to pull away as he was holding onto her pants. He then wrapped his hands around her waist and tried to drag her to the ground," according to McNichol, who says the victim then struck the suspect and broke free.

Police describe the suspect as about five feet tall, with dark facial hair. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with green lettering, and tan cargo pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Upper Chichester police at 610-485-8400.
