PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – PATCO and Philadelphia police are investigating the attack and robbery of a young man at a Center City train station on Tuesday that was caught on tape.
The young victim was so badly beaten he had to be taken the trauma center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Two men are caught on camera attacking a 22-year-old from Haddonfield, New Jersey as he was trying to buy a ticket on PATCO.
The attacked happened at the PATCO stop at 8th and Market Streets on January 2nd.
Video of the attack recently surfaced on the website, worldstarhiphop.com.
Even though the attack happened at 2:30 a.m., riders who spoke with Eyewitness News were surprised there apparently were no Delaware River Port Authority Police at the Center City stop during the early morning hours, following New Year’s Day.
“It’s unnecessary. Especially this stop right here. There should be the most police presence here, because this is the main hub right here in the city,” PATCO rider Nicodemo Fiorentino said.
The 22-year-old victim was repeatedly punched and kicked in the head while on the ground as onlookers can be heard yelling.
The two suspects then robbed him before running away.
“It’s just young kids being young and stupid,” said Lamont Pole, who watched the video.
The DRPA police are investigating the assault.
The victim was treated and eventually released from the hospital.
