Wheelchair-Bound Woman Struck, Killed In Delaware Hit-Run

By Liz Hur

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Police in Delaware are investigating are searching for three separate hit and run drivers who struck and killed a woman in a wheelchair.

According to police, she was crossing the 1000 block of South Market Street just outside of Wilmington when she was hit by an SUV shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

South Market Street runs north and south and police say the woman made it across the north-bound lanes and most of the south-bound lanes when the driver of a gold-colored SUV hit her and kept going.

After the initial impact, the victim was thrown from her wheelchair, where she was then struck by two other vehicles, which then fled the scene.

Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 58-year-old victim's name was not released as of late Tuesday night, but police say she was a resident of the Fairview Inn, just yards away from the scene of the accident.

As far as the vehicle is concerned, police say they don't have a make or model, but they believe it was a gold-colored SUV now with damage to its grill, as well as some serious front end damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Delaware State Police.
