Report: Teens Who Exercise More Do Better In School
By Dr. Brian McDonough
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Several new reports have suggested that if teenagers exercise more they'll do better in school. Now a new report in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine seems to help explain why.
They looked at studies with as many as 50 participants to 12,000 involving children between the ages of 6 and 18.
What the investigators found is that increases in oxygen and blood flow to the brain that often accompanies exercise can play a role in improving classroom performance.
The report also suggests that exercise can cause an increase in hormones responsible reducing stress and boosting mood.
