Free Pet Vaccinations At Penn For MLK Day Of Service

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Free pet vaccinations will be administered later this month at an area animal hospital as part of Martin Luther King day of service. Low-income households are encouraged to sign up for an appointment.

The University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine organizes this project each year for the MLK Day of Service, this year on January 16th.

"We are trying to reach out to pet owners who may not ordinarily have easy access to veterinary services. Either they don't have a veterinarian in their community or, because of the difficult economy, they can't afford appropriate veterinary care," explains Veterinarian Dr. David Holt who is assisting in the effort.

Vaccines for 200 dogs and cats will be administered at the Ryan Small Animal Hospital at 39th and Spruce Streets.

To make a required  appointment, call the hospital at 215-898-4680.
